Data Science Graduate Student

Job description

Floryn is one of the fastest growing fintech companies in the Netherlands. We provide credit to businesses. We aim to be the most responsible, scalable and customer-friendly online lender in Europe. Therefore the technology that we build plays an essential role in everything we do. We’ve lent out over € 200 million since inception (2016) and have processed over € 1.5 billion in transaction volume. We do things our own way, we ship code every day and we take pride in our work.

Building great stuff together is what drives us. We develop all our technology in-house, with modern open-source technologies. Quality always comes first. We are with ~50 people, split over Development, Data, Risk, Marketing and Sales. On the technology side we work with experienced people and we like that. The technology we build has a big real-life impact on businesses and people. We are one of the few companies that not only talks about machine learning but has actually implemented it as a key part of our business.

To further strengthen our academic connections and to provide a perfect community for innovation we are located in the same monumental building as the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, which hosts Bachelor and Master Data Science education tracks and is part of the University of Tilburg and Technical University of Eindhoven.

Your graduation project

Everything we do, from risk analysis, software development, marketing, and growth is data-driven. Currently, we work with more than a thousand active customers, who upload their transaction data regularly so we can assess their financial health. To assist our risk department in their decision making, our machine learning models process millions of customer transactions every month to predict the company's financial conditions. As a result, we have reduced the workload by half of the credit underwriters in the department.

Recently we build some MVPs building graph networks based on customers' transactions and saw promising results. We would like to expand on the MVPs and explore the field of graph databases. Our ambition for your project is to transform our transactional data into graphs to calculate centrality metrics and cluster our customers based on the graph data. The results will be used to improve our ML models and visualise the graphs for different business cases. All this using our existing dataset of transactions that involve millions of transactions from thousands of businesses that we collected over the past years.
